The Brezza estate, with
vineyards in Barolo dating back to 1885, takes its name from
Giacomo Brezza, who with his father Antonio bottled the first wine
of the estate in 1910. The estate lies very close to the centre of
the historic town of Barolo, which is surrounded by vineyards, as
is the nearby Hotel and Restaurant, also property of the Brezza
family.
The fourth generation of the Brezza
family, Enzo and his wife Charlotte, now manage the estate, which
extends to over 22 hectares, 16.5 of which are vineyards: 12.5
hectares in Barolo (including vineyards in the renowned Cannubi and
Sarmassa Barolo cru vineyards), 1 hectare in the commune of
Monforte, 1 hectare in the commune of Novello, and 2 hectares in
Alba.
The Brezzas produce wine in the
traditional style, which for Nebbiolo (Barolo) means
ageing in large oak casks, or Botti, to maintain its
varietal expression that also reflects the distinct terroir of the Langhe.
For us, Brezza ranks amongst the best of the traditional
wine-makers from this noble region.
